About Bosque Alegre Reserve

Bosque Alegre Reserve, located near the town of San Ramón in the Alajuela province of Costa Rica, is a high-altitude cloud forest ecosystem known for its towering oaks, abundant epiphytes, and diverse wildlife. The reserve encompasses a unique mix of primary and secondary forests, providing essential habitat for numerous endemic and migratory species, particularly birds. It lies within the central highlands, with an elevation ranging approximately from 1,600 to 2,200 meters (5,250 to 7,200 feet), fostering cool, misty conditions typical of cloud forests. Established to protect the fragile montane environment and its flora and fauna, Bosque Alegre is part of a larger ecological corridor that supports conservation efforts in the central volcanic mountain range. Visitors can explore a network of well-maintained hiking trails that wind through dense forest, moss-covered trees, waterfalls, and shaded creeks. The reserve is famed among birdwatchers for sightings of quetzals, toucans, and various hummingbirds. Researchers and nature enthusiasts also appreciate its diversity of orchids and bromeliads. The tranquillity and lush scenery make it an ideal destination for day hikes, photography, and nature study. The reserve’s location close to the town of San Ramón provides convenient access while still offering a genuine wilderness experience. Bosque Alegre’s cloud forest habitat plays a critical role in local watershed protection and climate regulation. Ultimately, the reserve exemplifies Costa Rica’s commitment to preserving its natural heritage through sustainable ecotourism and environmental education.
